Glowiak Glendale Heights Funding

WESTMONT — State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton announced that Glendale Heights will receive a total of $250,000 through Illinois’ Safe Routes to School program to improve pedestrian safety and expand opportunities for children and families to safely walk and bike in their communities.

“One of our top priorities should always be to make sure our children can get to and from school safely,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “I worked to help secure these investments so students and families can have greater peace of mind every day.”

The funding is part of $12 million in statewide grants announced by the Illinois Department of Transportation through the Glowiak Hilton-supported Safe Routes to School program, which supports projects that make traveling to school safer and more accessible for students and families.

The $250,000 grant will support the construction of an 8-foot-wide shared-use path along 4,600 lineal feet of the east side of President Street, ADA improvements at crossings and high-visibility crosswalk pavement markings.

The Safe Routes to School program is administered by IDOT using federal funding to improve safety and encourage walking, biking and rolling to school. Projects funded through the program include sidewalk improvements, traffic safety measures, public education efforts and community outreach initiatives.
